Wild Coast Hiking Tour - Day Trip from Westport

Main Highlights of Tour:

-          Depart Westport 9am Saturday morning from September to the end of March. (Pick-up point at Westport Leisure Centre, unless you would prefer to be collected at your accomodation, on request).

-          Travelling towards Leenane, enjoy amazing scenery and some of the most spectacular views in the country.

-          Carrowkennedy – site of the famous ambush in 1921 which helped shape the future of the Free State.

-          Visit the real “Field” from the movie.

-          Sit back and enjoy the spectacular mountain vistas until our next stop.

-          Ashleigh Falls.

-          Stop for tea at Delphi Resort Café.

-          Drive through the Doolough Valley and learn about the Famine Walk.

-          Coastal walk from Silver Strand Beach to Tonakeera Point. The walk features include: Miles of golden beach, seashore wildlife, dunes with associated flora and fauna, fabulous views to the islands of Inishturk and Clare Island, coastal mountain scenery. 

South of Clew Bay on the south-western extremity of county Mayo, great stretches of golden beaches run for miles along the Atlantic front, while gently curved dunes run back from the broad strands to wrap around the feet of the heather-clad hills.  Cut off from the outside world by the encircling raw steep sides of the Mweelrea mountains, Tonakeera Point possesses a wildness that is beautifully devoid of human intrusion, exuding a spirit of unspoilt freedom.

-          Enjoy your lunch with a cup of tea (provided by us) on an isolated beach and just enjoy the wildness and beauty of your surroundings.

-          From there it's be back to Louisburgh while exploring a couple of Grainne Mhaile sites on the way and stopping into the Grainne Mhaile museum in Louisburgh.

- Then onto Croagh Patrick to visit the magnificent mountain made famous by our Patron Saint.

-          Return to Westport approx 5pm.
